Shimon Slavin

Shimon Slavin (; born 17 May 1941) is an Israeli professor of medicine. Slavin established Israel’s National Stem Cell transplantation & Cancer Immunotherapy at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and served as the head of the Center for 27 years. He pioneered immunotherapy mediated by allogeneic donor lymphocytes and innovative methods for stem cell transplantation to cure hematological malignancies, genetic disorders and inborn errors of metabolism, aplastic and Fanconi’s anemia and genetic & acquired immune deficiency. With respect to treatment of hematologic malignancies and metastatic solid tumors, Dr Slavin has developed a patented cellular immunotherapy approach that has demonstrated breakthrough results in treating drug-resistant hematologic malignancies and metastatic solid tumors.

He also used hematopoietic stem cells for treatment of life-threatening autoimmune diseases by re-induction of self-tolerance, and also developed innovative approaches for induce transplantation tolerance to bone marrow and organ allografts allowing life-long engraftment of all organ allografts while avoiding the life-long use of immunosuppressive agents.

More recently, he has been working on the use of multi-potent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in regenerative medicine for the treatment of neurological, systemic inflammatory & autoimmune diseases, and orthopedic disorders by using the capacity of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) to regenerate cartilage and new bone formation.

He is currently serving as the medical and scientific director of Biotherapy International Center for Innovative Cancer Immunotherapy & Cellular Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, and as the Medical Director at HepC Therapeutics Budapest in partnership with ProBioGen, Berlin. Provided by Wikipedia
