Kate Morgan
Kate Morgan ( – November 28, 1892) was an American woman who died under mysterious circumstances. She is thought by locals to now haunt the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, California. She was buried at nearby Mount Hope Cemetery in Division 5, Section 1.Born in Iowa c. 1864, Morgan was orphaned in 1865 when her mother died. She was raised by her maternal grandfather since the age of two. Her father died in 1876. In December 1885, Morgan married. Her only son was born on October 31, 1886, and died two days later. Morgan eloped with a stepbrother of her husband c. 1890, but their relationship was short-lived. On November 24, 1892, she checked into a room at the Hotel del Coronado, introducing herself with an alias. She seemed alone, troubled, and melancholic to the hotel staff. on November 29, Morgan apparently committed suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. In the 1980s, a lawyer introduced the theory that the death was a homicide, since the coroner's inquest recorded that the bullet found in Morgan's head did not match that of her own gun.
